BOOK IS PRINTED INCORRECTLY -- DO NOT BUY!!!!!

The FOURTH EDITION is edited wrong, and most of the figures in Chapter 10 (BJT's) showing BJT amplifiers configurations are mistakenly repeated in Chapter 11 (JFET's, MOSFET's, etc.); in some places pages of text are repeated verbatim; in other places some captions are changed, as if the assembly of the THIRD EDITION into the FOURTH EDITION was somehow mangled in doing the update. This book needs to be recalled by the publisher and a full refund given.

Ronald E. Heine presents Origen's work in the context of the two urban centers where he lived-Alexandria in Egypt, and Caesarea in Palestine. Heine argues that these urban contexts and their communities of faith had a discernable impact on Origen's intellectual work.

The study begins with a description of Roman Alexandria where Origen spent the first forty-six years of his life. The thought of the Alexandrian Christian community in which Origen was born and in whose service he produced his first written works is examined from the limited resources that have survived. The remains of Origen's writings produced in Alexandria provide information about his early theological views as well as the circumstances of his life in Alexandria. Heine discusses the issues of the canon and text of the Bible used by Origen and the Alexandrian Christian community and the special work called the Hexapla which he produced on the text of the Septuagint.

Origen's later life in Caesarea was shaped by pastoral as well as teaching duties. These responsibilities put him in contact with the city's large Jewish population. Heine argues that the focus of Origen's thought shifts in this period from his earlier Alexandrian occupation with Gnostic issues to the complex questions concerning the relationship between church and synagogue and the ultimate fate of the Jews. In his final years it appears that Origen was rethinking some of the views he had espoused in his earlier work.

Origen: Scholarship in the Service of the Church

This is as good as anything I have ever read on Origen. The section on Caesaraea, in particular, is better than anything known to me. His attention to Origen's agenda there, notably on the Church in its relation to the Jews, is especially welcome. He deals with issues neglected by de Lange's Origen and the Jews. Further, his attention to when and where Origen wrote what he did, and his (Origen's) agenda at that time and place, can be found nowhere else.

A great study of a most original early Christian writer

Ronald Heine has put a capstone of nearly four decades of work with this study of Origen. Heine draws a distinction between the younger Origen of Alexandria and the elder theologian of Caesarea to highlight the changing context and development of his thought. Particularly well argued is the position that Origen, now an elder teacher in the Church, claws back his support for universal salvation in light of a ministry where many forsake the Church lightly, only to wish to enter again.

Managing Classroom Behavior summarizes principles of good instruction, the acting-out cycle, and how to work with students, other teachers, and parents. Based on empirical research and illustrated with numerous examples, this text gives students practice in applying principles of behavior management through the analysis of actual case studies, self-questioning, and reflection. The fifth edition features a new chapter on planning for the school year and managing the physical environment; a new feature which makes direct and explicit links between chapters in Part I and specific cases in Part II; revised and updated case studies, with the inclusion of all case descriptions now in the text; reorganized inclusion of APA references and the APA Style Guide; and all chapters have gone through a thorough revision process. This concise, clearly written case-based text is appropriate for both general and special educators in training or in service.

About the Author

James M. Kauffman has been a classroom teacher of emotionally disturbed and typically developing children. He has been a faculty member in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia since 1970, and has published widely about education in both books and journals.

The is a must have classroom management resource

Recent popular books like teach like a champion are actually not as well researched and thoughtful as a true university level text.
I like that this volume encourages one to take a reflective analytical approach and includes case studies to practice application of case analysis skills. I will be keeping this as a reference to my teacher library.

Drawing upon a range of historical and contemporary constellations of socio-cultural change and a variety of different types of events and activities, the articles in this volume describe different forms of destruction and their respective role in processes of transformation. Their shared aim is to explore the manner in which destructivity, such as the destabilisation and destruction of orders, subjects and bodies, can be grasped by concepts of performativity. In other words, to what extent may a certain destructive dynamic be inscribed within this very notion?
