Having been programmed to be a living receptacle to absorb negative thoughts, hateful emotions, and brutal actions since birth, she eventually breaks free and de-programs herself. It's the journey of an intrepid girl who stubbornly believes she can - and will - be a happy woman. The honesty and reality of this story is shocking, and sadly, so believable. Throughout the book I could sense the underlying strength of personality of the author and her iron will to survive and heal. I did like it though, so I gave it a 4 star. Darlene survived a horrific childhood, but talking with her today, you would never know her background unless she was to tell you. It took courage to write this story and to tell everyone about the abuse. This would be a great story for educators, therapists,parents, and anyone interested in child abuse awareness etc.... About the Author
Darlene Deacon was born in Waltham,Massachusetts and grew up in beautiful Down East Maine.
Being a survivor or horrific childabuse, she is working toward new legislation that would better prosecute childpredators.
Deacon has worked as a television news reporter andproducer. She also co-hosted with nationally-knownradio talk show host, Dick Farrel.
Darlene is also a character actress anda member of the Screen Actors Guild. She has appeared in several televisionproductions including a co-starring role in a FOX television series called"Super Force" and a small part in a movie made for USA Network televisionentitled "Red Wind."

While I gave this book five stars, it is not the kind of book that one would say they "love." Not because of the writing, but because of the story itself. Under the Influence of Evil is a soul wrenching account of unspeakable abuse, yet Darlene has been able to rise above it and tell her story so that others may learn that there is hope, no matter what the circumstances.
