Their decline from that pinnacle was so inexplicable and precipitous that it has defied pundits for four decades, engendering a mythology in Green Bay that has defamed a brilliant coach.

In his time, Dan Devine was a lightning rod for opinion, generating either intense loyalty or extreme loathing. Some have called him the worst coach in Packer history, but his record belies that. He turned around one of the sorriest teams in professional football in a single season, earning NFC Coach Of The Year honors in 1972. But by the end of 1974, Devine had so polarized the Packers that a group of players had mutinied and threatened to try and forfeit the season closer. Even legendary quarterback Bart Starr had gotten in on the intrigue as he maneuvered to take over the Packers.

Devine also pulled the trigger on perhaps the worst trade in NFL history, giving up five top draft choices to the Los Angeles Rams for a sore armed 34 year old quarterback. Little remembered is his equally brilliant dealing which brought NFL Hall Of Fame linebacker Ted Hendricks to the Packers that same year.

In Green Bay, Dan Devine has become the cherished whipping boy of a generation, while even a hint that several Packer icons may have employed less than stellar tactics in plotting to remove him can create a firestorm of opinion. In fact, it’s the ugliest episode in Packer history and that’s saying a lot in light of what happened in the 1980s. Buy it and make up your own mind. It’s not a pretty picture.

Very informative and entertaining

After reading this book, I found out a lot that I didn't recall about that time frame of being a fan during the 70's. I think the author took an honest look at each individual season and in using various references , he came to the conclusions that challenged his initial thoughts , before he started writing. I wonder if gb had acquired Archie manning back in 74, how the franchise might have turned out. I don't think this book could have been appreciated in the 70's or 80's. Definitely a good time to have reflected upon the game back then. Thanks

I would have enjoyed this a lot more without the constant distraction of misplaced words and terrible punctuation. It's a shame, because the author is clearly knowledgable and passionate about the subject. But this reads like a first draft, and was simply not ready for publication. Do your subject justice -- fix the mistakes, and it could be a worthy chronicle of a largely forgotten chunk of NFL history.

Sound Theology Based on Biblical Truth

Mr. Warren presents a very worthy piece of Classical Apologetics in his masterful work; "The Ladder of Trust." Not only is he crystal clear in his presentation, but his scriptural basis is unassailable. One needs only to crack open the Bible and check his every reference to discern for themselves the truth and logic of his support for his thesis.

It is eminently readable and full of meat. Those who choke on milk or pablum may find it too rich for their palette, but for the person who is seeking the truth by the light of the Holy Spirit, it is clear and direct. Those who are bound up by legalism and the errors promulgated throughout church history, will find sweet release in the liberty, grace and mercy that fills these pages.

The book is written from a Messianic viewpoint and explores how salvation can be found through faith in Y'shua Ha' Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah.) Faith is encompassed by Trust in G-d. This book lays out that truth in clear, simple and direct terms. The reader need only to rely on the Holy Spirit to open their minds and their hearts to the truth. He will guide them and protect them.

I know the author personally and know him to be a quintessential Biblical scholar and a man of the highest character and integrity. I highly recommend the book without reservation or hesitation.

WOW!Reading this book,was like taking in a breath of fresh air! It's alive and informative. The author does not belittle or put down, instead he uses the word of G-d to build up and strengthen. No one could write a book like this, unless G-d Himself wanted it written!The authors knowledge and wisdom is apparent throughout the book, as he keeps the reader both intrigued and interested. We strongly recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand their Jewish roots, while strengthening and deepening their walk with the Lord. Either used as a daily devotional or weekly Bible study, this book will help light the way. Praise G-d for this Author and those who encouraged him to write this. Thanks Ron, we needed this! First of all I want to express my deepest gratitude to Ron Warren for the exhaustive analysis presented in this book. It is a breath of fresh air to read a book that the author performs in-depth exegesis without confusing the reader with technicalities. In addition, the author does not try to force the Holy Scriptures to conform to a doctrine or an author's point of view. The author clearly is an individual that is seeking to find the truth about God and his relationship with us through our Messiah Yeshua. It is my humble opinion that this book is destined to be a classic along books such as the Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life by John Calvin.

Interesting Read

The personality type the author is describing in this book is very much like the character Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory". I found the book very interesting and informative. Although it surely would not be considered lite reading, it will stimulate your mind and help you better understand why people with this particular personality trait act the way they do. So if you are looking to expand your knowledge of the human psyche, I would recommend this book.

The best self-study book series I've seen.

A very good self-teaching book (ESPECIALLY WHEN PURCHASED WITH THE ACCOMPANYING CD).

I used Alfred's books to learn how to play and bought them again to relearn after many years of not playing. The books explain a lot in way of how to learn the keyboard by doing and not just memorizing. The selection of Copyright free music is sometimes boring as you go through the series but it is well worth the trip because as you go, you learn to recognize chords in both the left and right hands. Arpeggios are explained and used in the lessons.
There are not a lot of scales unless you buy the separate books which you should if you want to get serious. There is no replacement for a good teacher, but if you want to get to a point where you can go to a proper instructor, you'll have the theory down already and a good heads up to approach a more serious study of music.
The series of books in the Adult line are easy to understand and have a page of practice then a page of music to apply the hand positions and techniques to.
There are a lot of method lessons out there but Alfred's seems to be the best of the lot for studying by yourself. The first time I had an instructor, this time I'm relearning on my own with the same books and I still find them friendly and approachable.
This review is for the entire line of Adult products including the additional lesson and theory books. Well worth the money.

Great Book for Adults Looking to Learn

I'm in my mid-fifties learning or should I say re-learning how to play the piano. I took lessons as a kid and hated it so much that I finally convinced my parents to let me stop after three years. I went on to teach myself how to play a few other instruments somewhat proficiently, but lately found myself wanting to give the piano another try.

This book is fantastic. It starts you out slowly but moves along at a comfortable pace, with each lesson building on the previous one. I find the results so satisfying that I now actually look forward to the time I get to play the piano.

Alfred also has available accompanying song books one can buy that are tied directly to this lesson book. These books are very helpful and inexpensive. More importantly, at the top of each page they tell you which page in the lesson book you should be at before attempting a song in the song book. I bought a couple of them and find it a very rewarding experience while at the same time reinforcing the lessons.

Two suggestions I would make. First, get the book with the CD. Mine did not come with one but there are lots of YouTube videos of varying quality that at least show you how a song should sound. Secondly, once you feel that you've completed a lesson or learned a particular song, play it along with a metronome. You will be surprised at what a difference it will make with your playing.

A great buy

I bought this with no piano background, but with an understanding of music theory provided by guitar lessons. I now like playing the piano as much as I do guitar. This book definitely strengthened my sense of rhythm, and conditioned my hands just enough so that I can play a melody over chords, or sometimes two melodies simultaneously.

Some correlated material is necessary, however, as the book progresses pretty quickly by itself. The songs are good and you might be tempted to turn the pages too quickly (as I did) without first practicing the correlated material the book recommends.

But don't sweat it you decide not to dive in with several books. You'll get something out of just this book, and the piano will grow on you no matter how serious you are when you play. You just gotta play.
